My experience was a 4 1/2; I rounded up in this case... This is just what the neighborhood lacked, and needed desperately. There are several TVs located throughout the bar, super friendly, attentive staff and plenty of beer from which to chose, both draft and bottled. I think (from what I saw at the grand opening) they have a pretty nice draft selection; something for everyone. There were several that caught my eye: creme brulee, lefreak (my favorite, thus far), southern pecan, and the embalmer, to name a few. Tastes were readily offered in shot glasses. In addition, they have some wine available. One (seemingly) unique quality is that they also serve food. At least they will beginning next week. Very few tap houses in the area also have food available. Sure, you can order food from adjacent eateries, but still. Having recently moved from Tennessee, where food is served in tap houses and breweries, it's something that still baffles me about the area. But I digress. The atmosphere is casual, but the decor is more upscale feeling that the ordinary, run-of-the-mill bar. It's decorated in copper and copper hues. There is plenty of open space and several pool tables situated to the west of the bar. I hope that this will become my "go to" neighborhood watering hole.

I love this place! From the ever rotating craft beer list (featuring local, national and international finds including NZ and Italy!) - to the on-tap wine (several,) ciders, and even domestic bottles (there's always that one diehard person in the group who WILL NOT TRY craft beer!) - this is the perfect place for couples, groups, and dog-owners (on the front patio!) Flying Pig Taphouse is a combination of the friendly neighborhood pub and favorite bar, gone upscale with craft beer. I like that it boasts a solid food menu (beyond the bar snacks and fried food - Yay!) and is lively (live music some nights) and friendly to all ages (21 to 100!) Add in that owners Rebecca and Joe Glass are active in the local beer community (Rebecca is on the Tampa Bay Beer Week board) and St Petersburg causes, and you'll find this place becoming one of your favorites. Tourist and sports fan friendly, I've found The Flying Pig Taphouse to be a perfect place for an after work drink (happy hour pricing - check it out), a night out with friends, a first Friday or second Saturday St Pete downtown art walk stop, a Saturday afternoon walk with the pups, or anytime I want to try a new craft beer. Stop in and drink like you live here - and when you do, say hello to the owners for me.

Really love this bar as a hangout. Even did a Pinot's Palette event there and LOVED it!!!! Staff remembers your name and knows the beers (and wine!) on tap! Love the pool tables, the "jukebox", and the open mic nights. SO, why three stars??? The food! As the "Flying Pig" I'd expect a pork themed menu to rock my face off!!! There's (sadly) been plenty of times we passed on coming because there isn't really good food options here. Especially with amazing food (BBQ, Mexican, burgers, sushi, and more) just down the road.

With a name like Flying Pig, you would expect some Chef-crafted food, but you'd be sorely disappointed. The service was great, but the price of the beers and the food were a huge letdown. The food was processed, jarred, canned, etc. The hummus was bland and gritty and was covered in paprika. The celery it came with was brown on both sides where it was cut. The pulled pork sliders were served on boring, packaged buns and the meat tasted like it came out of a package too. I liked the idea of an app only menu, for the most part, but I don't understand how a place can go through all the work of opening in a great location and then serving bad food. The beer selection was great, but at $7 for a plastic cup of it, I wasn't left with wanting anything else. My girlfriend ordered a stronger beer and it was served in a plastic cup half the size of mine, but at the same cost. When she asked why her cup was so small, she was told because the beer has more alcohol in it. I've never heard that one before. It's a great location, with great potential, but it desperately needs a chef and a reconsideration of the beer prices. Right now, I'll be waiting in line next door at Ferg's. 2 stars for great service, 1 star for prices and food.

Do not eat here. We ordered BBQ sliders that were dry and tasteless, like the meat was old or reheated. We also ordered the French onion soup dip and chips, and for $8 you get a little cup of sour cream mixed with French onion soup mix and stale ruffles potato chips. The guy hot us a fresh bag of ruffles and they were even worse than the originals! The beers are great and the staff is nice. Plenty of space, clean. Good bar, but pass on food!

Decent beer selection but nothing that will knock your socks off. Service was friendly, offered tastes and whatnot. the layout is very warehouse like and very open with pool tables toward the back. Since it's minimalist it's very clean. Not sure what the music is like here as the night I went they had all the TV's on a basketball game. A decent place but it certainly didn't rock my little beer world

  • Kyle S.

Gotta say this was one of the best bar experiences since moving down here, definitely prefer this place to the rowdy Ferg's much more mellow and relaxing. Will definitely return.

  • Angela M.

This place was your average bar. Bonus is you can bring your pets (outside). Many beers on tap. The wine is on tap also. Friendly service and the place is clean. Nice open layout. The females bathroom was stuck. Give an extra shove to get in.

  • Holly H.

It is just like world of beer. A wall of beer taps. Fancy and new decor. The menu was small today "because of a Rays game." We ate the meatball sliders and the pork sliders. Both were ok. The coleslaw wasn't great. For a restaurant that has a pig as a mascot, I expected more out of their pork. I'm sure it has a great atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday but not Sunday afternoon. Most of the wait staff in there seemed bored and like they didn't want to be there. Maybe next time it will be better.

Overpriced. Typical "beer bar" draft selection. Was there in the afternoon so can't rate it for its night life.

  • Amy K.

This place has an amazing selection of local and national draft beers!! A lively scene and live music on the weekend. I've been here a couple of times and have never had bad service. Beers are around $6 per pint and food is also available. Sliders, random appetizers. The staff is attentive and knows their beers. Atmosphere is chill. Plenty of bar seating and tables for groups. Outdoor seating is also plentiful so you can bring your puppies if you'd like. There isn't a parking lot so you'll need to find street parking nearby. I would definitely recommend this bar to craft beer lovers...it will not be a disappointment!

Enjoy myself here on a regular basis. Currently they have PUMPKIN Shipyard. And MEAD, which was delicious, but a smaller glass, as it is 8%. Quite a good place, but quiet sometimes, which is great , compared to the local places that are packed

This was the highlight of my day. I just had gone to see a baseball game at Tropicana Field and in our aimless wondering in the neighborhood around the stadium, the only place that gave us immediate shelter from the sweltering humid heat, was Flying Pig. There wasn't a big crowd in here post-game and most likely, I don't think there would be a crowd if the team won. From a quick walk down the street, it seems most people go to the Cancun/Tijuana outdoor hut place down the street. No thank you...I'll take a cold beer, air conditioning, and some good ol sports bar vibes. I had a milk stout called Maven by Barley Mow and it was quite good. Like I stated earlier, this was definitely the best part of my day. No cowbells ringing in the background and an oasis of coolness amidst the heat of the hot Tampa summer. Though I doubt I'll ever be back in this area again, it's nice to know with high hopes that Flying Pig will survive and thrive with its prime stadium location.

GREAT FUN LOCATION Although it's at the base of the Fusion Apartments this place still feels like it stands on its own (and its neighbors with some cool other hangout options if that's what your friends prefer). It's long and narrow with the majority of the side facing large windows looking into Central--so it feels very open and bigger than it actually is. The servers and bartenders overall don't seem much for chatter but have been brisk and service-like. Nothing too bad. LOTS OF BEER (NOT SO MUCH CIDER) Out of the 40 or so choices, there have probably been only two Ciders during my visits... so someone who is Gluten-Free probably wouldn't have much to do here. Out of the Beer the variety is great and all over the place. It's easy to grab a flight and try several options. ATMOSPHERE Most people play Cards Against Humanity (ask the counter) but there's corn hole, pool, and darts as well. This place serves food, but my experience with it has been painfully slow. Since you can bring in food from outside I do that instead--plus their food is overpriced IMO.

Nice clean spacious place. We stopped by there before the baseball game on Sunday. We sat by the bar. The bartender was friendly and efficient. We ordered beers and some food. They had "game special menu", so we ordered pulled pork sliders and a hot dog with sour crowd. Delicious! Fantastic snack. Very tasty and filling. Great beer selection. Will definitely be back.

  • Chelsea B.

They have an impressive, unique beer selection--though we sadly got there after the kitchen had closed so I can't speak to anything but the beer and the atmosphere. The atmosphere was great, and the company around the bar was better. They had a pool table, which was fun, and nice outdoor seating space. I highly recommend this for a craft beer or five, especially if you like a more unique selection.

Fabulous location, marvelous selection & hilarious staff. I appreciate a good sense of humor; see Mike for details. And with plenty of local creations, you're sure to find something locally crafted & delicious. Girl, please.

I love this place. Good beer selection, pool tables, darts, and an awesome bartender. When we went there, the female bartender treated everyone like family and made up a great game for us to play while we sat around. We tried a bunch of beers but didn't grab food.

Been here a couple of times and I'm going to sum it up in terms of pros and cons. Pros: - Decent beer selections with some rare finds - Friendly staff - Smoked fish spread was good Cons: - Other food we sampled left something to be desired and was overpriced for the portions we got - Beers are a little overpriced. You can get some of the same ones for $0.50 or $1 cheaper at Ale and the Witch I hope the place does well and improves the food quality and lowers the prices. Then, this place would be a gem.

Sam Adams blueberry hill lager is the first on this pub crawl. The atmosphere here is nice. Open space, pool tables, and the amazing amount of tap beers to chose from gives this place 5 stars. The service was great and they have a small menu of app type food. It's close to Tropicana Field so perfect before or after a Rays game!!

I visited the Flying Pig Taphouse last weekend. It was the initial meeting place for a fundraising event I was involved with through a charitable organization. From the outside, this place appears very nice. You step in to a very clean establishment, with very friendly staff. They seem very attentive to everyone's needs. I personally am not a beer drinker; so this isn't quite the pace for me. However, they have a very extensive beer selection, both on tap, and in bottles. The prices are average for other like establishments in St. Pete. All in all, a nice place to visit.

  • Erick B.

Hit or miss depending on bar staff. I had a ruder one who repeatedly sprayed customers with beer from the dysfunctional taps, who additionally didn't close me out when I asked for it and instead opened a tab then took 20 minutes to get to me to close out my tab. It delayed my entire group. This was aggravated by there being only one bartender on duty for a Saturday night which was a bit inconvenient for the customers.

Pool tables, tv's outdoor seating, lots of tables. 50 taps and more than enough in bottles. Also a kitchen for light food. A great place for a beer

While the tap selection is great and staff is always willing to provide a "taste" or "samples"..........they have GOT TO GET THEIR FOOD MENU & KITCHEN TOGETHER. We have been in to order food three times now and the first time a standard sandwich that my husband ordered was just lame (not a lot of meat, bread dry, etc.), 2nd time we specifically went there to order the hot pretzel with queso...they were out of queso. Queso was on 2-3 different menu items and the menu isn't that big. The server said they had been out of it all week....what? A week later we were told that they are no longer offering it because it is too hard to keep in the kitchen because it is too thick and clumpy or too runny. Here is a thought just make it to order. Realistically they could melt cubes of Velveeta and add salsa and fresh cilantro, etc. and zap it in the microwave. We also tried the onion dip and it was SO salty that we only had a bit each. I think they didn't break down the Lipton onion seasoning packet enough with the cream cheese and sour cream that they used. Go there for beer but go somewhere else to eat. :)

We visited The Flying Pig on Valentine's Day on our way back to the historic district from the beach. This is a modern tap house with about 50 beers on tap. The owner and his wife are super friendly and the staff is knowledgeable and quick to offer a suggestion or a sample. The Pig occupies a lot of space and I'm guessing they are hoping to become a middle Central Ave go to spot. They are close to stadium but only time will tell if they can compete with Fergs for the ballpark crowd. The Pig serves a limited menu of food and their sandwiches were fine. I hope going forward they are able to bring in more selections from local breweries and still keep the the excellent out of state breweries represented. I'm concerned about how big the Pig's space is and whether they can support it. I hope they can.

Have been here multiple times. Great beer selection and staff is always friendly. It is very new and clean which is a welcome change from other bars in the area. However, they have GOT to improve their menu!!! We have ordered food a couple of times and have never had something we liked. We have just been going for drinks now before we go somewhere else to eat.

Walked in to The Flying Pig about 20 minutes before Americas final game during the Futbol World Cup. The place was empty and the gentlemen behind the bar welcomed us in and invited our service dogs as well. (We never push the issue with restaurants as many people take advantage of this law) He recommended a few beers and pointed out all of the specials they were running. After he served us he immediately brought our dogs big clean and fresh water bowls. We had a great conversation with him and we watched as the place filled up for the game. He was very attentive and always made sure our glasses were full. Backup help arrived behind the bar and the women was equally friendly and attentive. Ended up watching the whole game, enjoying a wide spectrum of beers, a few nice appetizers (hummus and the pretzels) and had great conversations with the other people at the Bar while we all cheered on America (although they lost)..

The food here is really not good. They should stop serving food and just do beer and I might like this place. But, since that's what we were stopping in for, we were pretty disappointed. (It does say "delicious food" on the door). Anyway, I had the bbq pork sliders which made every bbq that I have ever purchased from a grocery store in a container (Lloyds, for instance) actually seem appealing. We also got some French onion dip as an appetizer bc we were starving. It was the best thing we had and was served with Ruffles potato chips or something similar but seriously not worth your time or money and you could get something in a can from a grocery store that would also be better. Girlfriend got some panini that visually was one of the most unappealing things that I think I've ever been served. Partly a misnomer on the menu because it's called the "three cheese avocado panini" which would make one think there would be avocado, but it's actually some slimy looking guacamole. (I checked the description after writing this and it actually does say guacamole in the description, but the name is misleading). Considering the fact that she only ate 2 bites, I'm guessing it was not something you should ever try. Because like I said we were starving. On the upside they do have a lot of beer that I could get somewhere else for the same price or cheaper that has better food. Also, there was live music that was okay and there are pool tables and dart boards where some "bros" we're seeing who could scream "whooo" louder. Of course, it was the weekend before St. Patrick's day, so I guess we were kind of expecting that. Maybe they have a less obnoxious crowd on other days. Or maybe those are their regulars... I don't know. Either way I doubt that I will be back to find out.

I love that this little gem opened up on Central (it helps that I live in the building it is in too ;) The beer selection is outrageous...you can quite frankly find something to whet even the hardest to please person. The bar staff is super friendly and helpful..they will give you suggestions and samples until you find just what you are looking for. The layout is nice and open with pool tables and decent music always playing. This place is really top notch. I just wish they had a larger selection of bar food. If you are on Central or walking to or from a Rays game, it is a great place to check out a new beer and hang for a little bit. I love it. You should love it. It is a place of beer....why would you not love it?

Fantasic beer selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Disappointing food. We ordered chips w/ queso and the pretzels. None of it was good. If you've already eaten and just want good craft beer then this is your place.

  • Kerrie V.

We couldn't be more disappointed in this place. We ordered a beer described as a Kentucky bourbon-barrel aged imperial stout. We were served something that tasted like a Youngs Double Chocolate Stout. We asked the server and she said "we should have requested a taste and there's nothing she can do about it." I've been to a lot of taprooms. Every so often, you encounter a "not quite right" beer. It happens. But with so many excellent taprooms in the Tampa area, I'm not going to frequent a place with this attitude.

Great place for local, national, and import craft beer. They have 50 taps and 2 coolerls with a massive bottle selection. The crowd seems to be quiet and reserved. It is a bit quiet when no one is playing the jukebox. The only thing that would make the selection better is some rare releases.

This is another welcome addition to the ever-growing Tap-houses in downtown St. Petersburg. They could've scored better but during my visit my first draft beer was a little bit flat. They replaced it and I got a better draft. The menu is limited, but I think they are still building it out The ambience and location is excellent

GREAT beer selection but VERY LIMITED food menu. Don't come here hungry or expecting much of a food choice. Hot dog is about it.

I have been to The Flying Pig a couple times now and have a great time every time. The beer selection is great and the prices are reasonable for the quality and selection. The staff is always super friendly and the place has a great vibe. Its always clean and has a nice open feel. It has a juke box so the music varies a lot depending on the crowd thats there and there is a pool table and never the same people running the table all night. All in all I think this is a great Friday night hang out, my only hang up is that they don't have much to eat. Some appetizer type bar food like pretzels and such but it is a bar after all.

  • Ali C.

I only had beer before a Ray's game. They had a limited food menu that day and nothing jumped out at me or sounded too great. They do have a nice selection of beers. I think they might have wine too, but no liquor. They have TV's, but otherwise it is sparse. They have pool tables too. Enjoy!

They have a wonderful assortment of on tap beers. The food is nothing special. The service is great.

  • Laura R.

The Flying Pig has a generous amount of space, several pool tables, a decent beer selection and a friendly staff. However, their food is just so-so; I most recently tried a grilled cheese sandwich with avocado and a side of greens, but it seemed to fall apart and just didn't strike me as anything I would order again. If you only care about the beer, however, they aren't a bad bet, although I prefer the Amsterdam (for their weekend entertainment) or Cycle Brewing (for their more interesting crowd) when looking for a night out with excellent beer. Overall, it's a decent place to drink a few with friends. The crowd is on the younger side and a little noisy, but the place has a good vibe. It just isn't as interesting as some of the other options available close by.

What a joke this place is. The owner has no idea what he's doing aside from pouring a beer but even that has so much head it makes Monica Lewinski look like an angel. The food is gross..the kitchen is smaller than my closet and consists of a microwave and an EZ Bake Oven..it's way over priced and the cook doesn't wear any gloves. The employee turnover rate is as high as a fast food restaurant. The owner is rude to his employees in front of customers as if to embarrass and humiliate them..the beer is a nice selection but far overpriced. In my opinion green bench and cycle have a much better vibe with employees that look happy and they don't claim to have food.

Save your money, save your time and save your patience. We went today (Rays Game day against Boston), they had one bartender and one waitress. That's it, on a Sunday game day. Epic fail. The waitress could not possibly serve the amount of people there. The menu is a bunch of crap on game day. No like really crap food. Potato chips and Lipton soup onion dip, and two sliders. We asked for a beer menu, our waitress told us to use our phones to look it up. Our food was left on the bar to get cold while the one waitress's served and entire restaurant. When we finally asked for the check she swiped our card to pay someone else's bill! Oh and ladies use both hands to open the restroom doors, it's not locked just sticks like it's glued shut. Seriously how this place remains open is beyond me. The beer was way over priced, service crap and food worse. Just don't bother going keep walking on by.

Oh wow, another new craft beer taphouse in St. Pete! Um, well, yeah, yeah, the city is getting overrun with these places, and maybe the bubble will burst this year. But until then, the new Flying Pig Taphouse merits a visit. What makes it different from, oh, World of Beer, Brass Tap, or even the new Green Bench Brewing just down the street? Well, it's not trying to be corporate. It's not brewing up its own drafts. It's not over-priced. It's not full of 23-year-olds, not yet, anyway. So what is it? It's big. It's one of the biggest spaces for one of these places I've seen, so you won't be bumping elbows if you don't want to. It's attractively laid out in one long room, with big windows opening onto upper Central Ave, beyond the Trop. It has a very nice rail of interesting taps, at least the night I was there for the soft opening. They also have quite a bit of wine, though why you would go to a taphouse for wine baffles me. Ask the ladies, I guess. Its prices are not pushing much beyond $6 a pint, with many priced below that, which is a major plus, if you are getting a little sick of over-paying for high-alcohol craft beer. Me, me me? It's not very noisy. In fact, it's pretty quiet if you want to have a convo with someone. They are planning food, and maybe live music, if they can sneak it past the persnickety residents of the condos upstairs. And there is an outdoor courtyard coming soon, we are told. Worth a trip to check it out. It could become a favorite.

I love this place. It's become my "home" bar even though I literally have to drive past 20 bars to get to it. There is always a great beer selection (draft & botte), great specials and an amazing staff. They're always patient and so helpful in figuring out just the right beer for me. They have 2 pool tables and 2 new high tech dart boards and 4 tvs usually featuring sport games. Great outdoor seating but even when its packed, the inside is so spacious that I don't feel claustrophobic.

  • Francisco R.

I love that the Flying Pig Taphouse knows exactly what it is - a great, great craft beer place. The place is spacious and inviting, so you never have people all over you. The bartenders and the owners know beer really well, and will let you sample anything you need. Don't know what to have? Tell then what beers you usually drink and they'll have recommendations. I've read some reviews knocking on the food, but I have no problem with it. On game days they have a limited menu of easy to make/eat food, and they keep those plates coming. Again, they know what they are and they don't try to fool customers into thinking they're a 5 star restaurant. I'm ok with that.

  • Larissa S.

The place is incredibly cliche. It should be located in SOHO Tampa. The whole concept is pretty much World of Beer. The name "Flying Pig" was due to the fact the owner wanted to use bacon extravagantly in their small plates. Way to be creative. Beers are what you are going to find everywhere. The place has TV's, pool tables, etc. The decor is very commercialized, not very home-y. Seems like the place to find your average Yuppie. Overall - blah. This has been done. Enjoy your bacon.

My sporty people have designated this place as our HANGOUT after games. Pretty COOL, SOMEWHAT SMALL PLACE that is good for just that--hanging out. There's a LOT OF TABLES AND SEATING to relax at and the main things-to-do revolve around CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY or the POOL TABLES. But the main draw is the Beer with ABOUT 40 ON TAP and a few more bottles. GREAT VARIETY of microbrews although I've tended to stick to my Ales. It's also in a GREAT LOCATION at the bottom of some classy condos and surrounded by the growing area of Central Ave. For the love of beer don't get tempted--DO NOT ORDER from their KITCHEN. Over priced and under handed food. One time it took 45 minutes from ordering to receiving the freakin' small MEATBALL SLIDERS. You can BRING IN FOOD FROM OUTSIDE so just walk the two blocks to Bodego or Mercado or something. This place is okay--it's hard to mess beer up that's not made by you. There's NOT MUCH ELSE to do... like I said... great for just plain hanging out.

Great beer selection and a good atmosphere. A fun place to enjoy a beer. A limited menu that i did not sample but definitely a good lace to have a beer and meet people I will definitely go back to try the food.

Great tap house near the Trop with 40 rotating taps, and over 250 bottles, something for everyone. Very friendly owners and a very accommodating staff. Very good ambiance with a new outdoor seating area that makes it very dog friendly. Trivia on Tuesday nights is a winner, and constant special events.
